FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Digital Health Entrepreneur Reveals a New Approach to Obesity and Health at the 2023 Canadian Obesity Summit.

VANCOUVER, BC, MAY 11, 2023 -- Michael Bidu, founder and CEO of MYND Therapeutics Inc., has been invited to speak at the 8th annual Canadian Obesity Summit, being held May 14-17 in Whistler, British Columbia.

MYND is a promising digital therapeutics (software-as-therapy) company based in Vancouver, BC. One of its first products, MYNDSET Beta to be released at the summit, is a new way of addressing the issues of being overweight or obese, treating them as behavioural and mental health problems, rather than as character flaws.

Mr. Bidu’s talk at the plenary session on Wednesday, May 17th is on “Accelerating Change in Canadian Healthcare” and will cover topics such as digital health, the democratization of health, digitizing medicine and therapies, and the role of consumers in driving change in health. In particular, he will describe how the use of immersive technologies such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and technologies such as AI and ChatGPT will change the relationship between patients and doctors.

Overweight and obesity is a progressive, chronic and costly disease centred in the brain. It currently puts nearly half of all Canadians – some 15.3 million people – at risk for over 200 related diseases, ranging from type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, to chronic joint pain, certain cancers and mental health issues such as stress, depression and anxiety.

More than 7 million Canadians have obesity, costing the economy between $4.6 and $7.1 billion annually. Currently there are only 67 American Board of Obesity Medicine- certified physicians in Canada to serve those seven million people.

At MYND Therapeutics we believe the only way to solve the imbalance between massive demand and insufficient supply, and to improve access to care for all Canadians, is through technology delivered with care at scale that can empower consumers and change the relationship between patients and physicians for the better.

We also need bold leadership, innovation, education, training, science and technology and better health policies to make change happen faster.

Canada and Canadians will benefit from accessing new digital therapies at home or in the clinic or hospital that will lead to more people living healthier lives, to more productive and satisfied healthcare providers, and to more value for payers, including employers, insurance plans and government.

According to Mr. Bidu, “Digital health technologies that are science-based and clinically proven can be adopted faster, cost less to acquire and deliver better value and health outcomes than the status quo. Recent developments in AI and ChatGPT are accelerating change in all industries, including healthcare. The Canadian healthcare system has no choice but to change.”
